Hello everyone,
A year and a half ago, I bought a new VW which uses the R1234YF refrigerant in its AC system. I've driven it around 75,000 miles since, mostly in the city with the AC frequently running. I often see shops advertising or suggesting an AC service every two years, which typically involves vacuuming out the system, recycling the refrigerant, replacing the compressor oil, and adding dye. I'm wondering if you would recommend doing this as a preventive measure, or should I follow the principle of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"?
If it's working OK leave it alone. When you do need service if the car is out of warranty stay away from dealers and chain shops.
I have a 2017 Mustang and it's never been charged. The air conditioner still works. My wife has the same model year Mustang with 120,000 miles on it and her A/C still works fine. If it works, ignore shops "recommending" a service. All they're wanting to get from you is your money.
