Hi all. Hope you are all well. I keep seeing water leaking onto the asphalt underneath my 06 Toyota Highlander. Is that normal? I know it's not the water pump because it's knew and and I woulda known if it was the water pump. Water keeps dripping drip drop for like 20 minutes causing a pool of water on the asphalt where parked.
Please let me know. Thanks
Sal
Thanks Chuck. I had an inspection done on my car by Toyota and I'm sure if it were a problem, they would have let me know. So I'm hoping it's only condensation.
Peace!
Condensation from the air conditioner is perfectly normal. The water has to drain out somewhere.
Yep, that's perfectly normal. The evaporator coil in the dash gets near freezing cold, the blower fan pushes outside air over the coil and chills the air. Cold air doesn't hold the moisture that it did when it was warm, so it condenses and drips out of a drain. The effect is sort of like having a cold can of Coke outside, it gets "sweaty" as people call it. The water under the car is like the drinks "sweat". You could suck air past a bunch of cold cans of soda or bags of ice and get an air conditioning effect, albeit a small one.
Check out the dripping rate on humid and dry days, you'll notice the amount of water varies pretty significantly.
I am surprised that the Toyota dealer didn't find or make up some way to overcharge you for something you didn't need in the first place.
