Active fuel management issues

Hi Scotty,

I have a 2007 GMC sierra crew cab  SLT 5.3 automatic with only 49k. I use Amsoil signature 5w30 and change oil every 5k or once a year. I have the active fuel management turned off since new and haven't had any issues with that yet. Will leaving the active fuel management turned off prevent camshaft and lifter issues?

Thanks Gringo

it will help, but not eliminate the problem

You only turned it off via software, but the hardware is still intact, so still susceptible to failure (but definitely not as bad as before when it would switch from V8 to V4 and back).  The true way to eliminate the issue is to replace the AFM lifters and cam with non-AFM ones but that would cost around $3,000 or so.

AFM means "A F##% Mess". Worst things they cold ever do for longevity.
