Hi Scotty,
I am the happy owner of a 2011 Acura MDX (automatic) with 51,000 miles on it. I have owned it for 6 years and have put about 30,000 miles on it in that time. It has served me well during that time, with the only major repairs being the replacement of the timing belt along with the obligatory water pump. Recently I have found that the MDX has started burning a little oil, and after some research find the the 3.7 liter engine has a developed a reputation for oil use. It appears the Acura engineers decided that the steel cylinder sleeves in the previous 3.5 liter engine were no longer required and created the 3.7 liter engine. They decided to apply some special treatment to the cylinder walls of the aluminum block and thought that would be fine. It seems that they were wrong. So my question to you is - should I keep the MDX or trade up to a 2014 or 2015 which have reverted back to the 3.5 liter engine?
Thanks,
Geomax01
This may be a long shot but maybe worth a try. Acura issued a recall and is replacing oil consuming engines of the MDX but you may be outside the recall. I have a 2012 and am getting the engine replaced. It would be worth a trip to the local dealer and see what they say, especially if you purchased from them. Here is the recall link.

Depends on how much oil does it burn, if it is more than 1 quarter per 3k miles, I would get rid of the car since it results in other major issues (From cat failure to ... ). But as it is always said in this forum, ask a mechanic to check any car you want to buy to avoid hassles.
