Upon researching potential struts for my 2004 Toyota Prius, I came across Air Struts. Any good or bad experiences with air struts? Are they worth the expense? Or are traditional struts the way to go?
Air struts are not that great for handling and comfort. They also don't last very long as they are very prone to air leaks when the rubber components deteriorate from time. Hydraulic struts are definitely the way to go. Very rarely is air suspension used anymore in passenger cars (unless someone modified it just to have a nice "stanced" look when they park and release the air out of the suspension lol).
GTK. Thank you.
Not worth the expense
I hear ya.
I'm a fan of the monotube gas shock

Rancho 5000 gas charged twin-tube shocks were good too. Took a lot of abuse.
They are expensive to fix and break all the time. I'd stick to the regular stuff in this case.
No. Just stick to the normal ones.
Thanks.
I understand why you would entertain them, but they are more trouble than they are worth, esp. when they leak. I would just stay with the conventional struts.
Yeah they seem so tempting. Alas, I'd rather have low to no maintenance, than dealing with things often. Thanks for your suggestion.
