Hello,
I found a local shop that specializes in VW/AUDI TDI that also performs alignments. I have heard a recommendation that alignments should only be done at the dealer as they are most familiar with the specifications of the car. Is there a reason to believe that this local shop performs less quality alignments than the dealership? Is some alignment equipment at the dealership more expensive and/or does a better job than a private shop? Is this concern an operator knowledge concern, cheap equipment concern, or both regarding getting alignments at the dealership over private shops? Is the equipment customized to the manufacturer, i.e. VW alignment equipment vs. Toyota alignment equipment?
Is anyone familiar with this shop https://www.dieselland.net?

This is not true.
Alignment specialty shops, not dealers, usually have the latest laser alignment equipment. Dealers just do this as a sideline job. All the shops have access to the actual specifications. I wouldn't take my vehicle to a dealer for even a windshield wiper. They always seem to find other expensive repairs they say you need after their complimentary "inspection."
Probably a rumor started by the stealerships themselves. Absolutely not true.
I’d even go so far as to say the stealership is probably the last place you should get an alignment..
