Hi
I have an old 1993 Lancia that I use occasionally. My rear breaks make noise while driving at very low speed. When I accelerate or brake, the noise goes away. The disks and brake pads are still good. I've put once some WD40 on it and the noise disappeared for a short while and came back. My other problem is my manual gearstick. When I put the first or the second gear, the stick makes noise. I tried to put some WD40 on it too but no success for resolving the problem.
Hey so.... You said discs.... Are you saying it has new style disc breaks in the rear? Or does it have drums in the rear? How long ago did u replace the breaks?
And as for the shifter.... What kind of noise is it? Is it a grinding sound or a clunking or what? And can u tell if the noise is coming from the cab or the trannie or somewhere else?
New style disc brakes in the rear. I replaced them long ago.
About the shifter, it is a grinding sound coming from the cab.
The reason that your brakes are making this noise is due to high vibration of the pads against the rotors. I would just replace the brakes entirely. For the manual transmission, you didn't mention mileage but with that age- the transmission may be going out and may need replacement.
