Hey Scotty,
Long time watcher, first time caller. I have a 2011 Mitsubishi Endeavor that I just bought and as part of my mechanics' inspection he told me the subframe is pretty rusty. He said it was just surface rust right now but that I should watch it.
I usually take my vehicles in for annual rust sprays but I'm also considering cleaning up the underbody a bit by coating it with POR15 or your favourite, Rust Bullet.
In your opinion is it worth my time applying the POR15 or rust bullet if I'm also taking it in every 6 or 12 months for rustproofing? Would you recommend rust encapsulation (POR15/Rust Bullet), rustproofing sprays or both?
Thanks Scotty! Keep on rockin' in the free world!
Ron.
POR15 is supposed to work really well. I heard good things about it. It’s expensive though. After a few years you may just end up spending more than a new frame
POR15 is great stuff but if the surface is not prepped properly, which could be a sporting proposition with the subframe in the car, it will wind up flaking off. I just spray Fluid Film under winter-use vehicles each fall and it does a good job of retarding rust.
