Is it safe to mix antifreeze if you’re just topping it off. I noticed the coolant was a little low on my wife’s 2016 Ford Escape SE 2.5L. The coolant that’s in their is an orangish color and I have Prestone which is a light greenish color.
The color is just a dye. What's important is if the coolant you added has the correct chemistry. Look up the specs for the OEM coolant versus the Prestone to see if they are compatible.
Use the coolant that is written in your owners manual.
Some owners manuals might*** say you can use (distilled) water or universal coolant in a pinch or a bind, but to do a full coolant fluid exchange soon after.
Every owners manual is different, so you will have to see for the Escape.
No there's no good reason to mix. The difference in prices is insignificant.
