Are Toyotas and Honda's from 2000-2010 good cars for first time collage student.

They can be but you should avoid years and models with known problems. Also in general the older you go the more problems you are likely to have simply due to age. Just because a model was very reliable 25 years ago doesn't mean that any particular example of it is going to be reliable today. Be sure to have any used car you are serious about buying inspected by a good mechanic before purchase.
