Never heard of AT-205 damaging anything, though of course it doesn't always work. That 1/4 century old engine most likely had other issues, maybe was low on oil due to the leak you tried to "fix" with that stuff. Your choices at this point are to replace the engine or replace the car, with the latter probably making the most sense.

If you used the proper quantity of AT-205, it shouldn't have done anything. I have a 1979 Pontiac Catalina whose transmission seals are still original. The car would noticeably leak transmission fluid; I had to put around 2 quarts in every 3 months. After I put the proper quantity in, it only seeps a little bit, and never enough to drip. I'm adding maybe a quart every 6 months now. AT-205 was designed as a brand-aid, there's no substitute for replacing old rubber parts with new.
