AutoTransmission shudder

Hi Scotty!

2009 Sonata Diesel 2.0, 4-speed autotran, 187,000 km.  There's trans shudder at exactly 2 instances: once immediately after up-shifting to 3rd at 50kmph upto about 60kmph, and then again after up-shifting to 4th at 70 kmph upto about 90 kmph, after which It's hardly noticeable.  Oil change showed no debris nor discoloration.  How do I fix this?  Thank you!

G’day mate!

Unfortunately, Hyundai products are known to start falling apart post ~ 160,000 kms (100,000 miles). Since you already replaced the ATF, your best bet now is to have the transmission analysed by a transmission expert in your area, and proceed accordingly.

If the diagnosis is that it’s internal transmission wear, you might be wise to get rid of the vehicle ASAP.

It really wouldn’t be wise to start throwing serious money to fix an old, high mileage Hyundai (or Kia).

Fingers crossed it’s something minor like worn out transmission mounts.

All the best!
