Hey Scotty. I live in northern Illinois. I've avoided considering a Lexus GS 300 on account of it being rwd. I recently found an 06' advertised as AWD. Any issues or precautions I should be looking for?

Whenever you buy a vehicle that is AWD regardless of what manufacturer it is (even Toyotas)- check the transmission. Also confirm that it is AWD- find proof.
For a vehicle that you're currently looking at, I would keep looking because you didn't mention where it is (dealer or private party), how much they're asking, mileage and how much rust is on the vehicle since you live in the north. Plus this particular Lexus- an AWD drive will be even more expensive in repairs.
