I have an automatic 05 Outback, and recently going from 1st to 2nd gear the car has been jolting forward/kicking and it’s been really rough
what could be a reason that this is happening?

It could be the transmission is wearing out. When is the last time it was serviced?
December was the last time it was serviced, before that it was regularly serviced. Now the dash light is being spotty until I get into 3rd gear
Trans can still be going out on you. Subaru automatics have never been very robust. If you're lucky though it might be just a hinky shift solenoid but you need a professional bidirectional scan tool to test that.
