I'm in the market for either an SUV (Ford Explorer size), or a mid-size pickup truck. A year or two old, or, if it's worth buying a new one I would go with that.
Any recommendations?
Clarification: How long do you want to keep the vehicle for and how many miles would you like to put on it? Also, what other constraints do you have? Do you need AWD or 4WD? Towing? (If so, how much weight?)
You couldn't go wrong with a Toyota Rav4 or Highlander for an SUV or a Toyota Tacoma for a midsize truck.
Toyota Highlander, Toyota Sequoia... I would get a later year of the generation to get the kinks worked out. So maybe a 2017-2019 Highlander if that fits the bill? The best deal is generally a 3-4 year old Toyota, in good mechanical shape (passes a pre-purchase inspection by a trusted mechanic). Buying new is almost a waste, and in fact puts you in risk of defects from the factory.
Note if you decide to go with the Highlander: Stick to the 6 speed automatic in the years mentioned, I would be wary of the 8 speed automatic. Sure Toyota mostly fixed the kinks but its more complicated and a lot more likely for things to go wrong down the road.
Would also want to add the first generation Toyota Venza, basically a Camry crossover.
Toyota 4Runner. Expensive. But the quality is top tier and can last a very long time as long as you follow the recommended maintenance schedule. We’re talking 250,000+.
