JDIAG OBD2 scanner (43 dollars on Amazon) or OUK-BT V311A handheld universal (32 on Amazon). Which one should I go with for a cheap scan tool out of these too.

Hmmn, … What is it that you wish to do with your scanner? Those things can be dangerous in few selected hands, … seriously, though, … what’s your plan for these tools? Once we know, … we may be able to steer you to a better one, more accommodative of your plan.

A scan tool that reads codes and erases them and checks for problems. Not much more

Sort of, what I thought.

Reading codes is an excellent idea. Provides a knowledge, suggests possible way of moving forward.

Erasing codes is another issue. Sure, once you know there is a code, you can erase it, … but if one just keeps erasing codes, … and keep on driving, doom often follows!

Yeah, I was thinking of going with the JDIAG scan tool the 43 dollar one

Depends on what you need. If you just need a basic one then the cheapest will do. I got mine from eBay for $17.00 and free shipping. All it does is pull check engine light codes but at that price can't go wrong.

What about the ones on Scotty’s tools page?  It’s Scotty approved and also has live data, which will help you in the future to troubleshoot (although you need to know what the heck the parameters mean.)

Yeah I was just looking at these 2, if I had to pick between the 2

I only bring it up here because it’s in the same price point as the two you are looking at and seems to offer a little more capability (live data), and Scotty recommends it.  The two you are looking at - never heard of those brands, and not sure if Scotty ever reviewed them.  I’d hate for either of those two scan tools to short something out on your OBDII port - if those scan tools are no name brands;  not saying that is even going to happen, but I don’t like hooking a device to my OBDII port if the tool is not backed by a reputable company.
