Hello Scotty,
I'm planning on buying an off road truck and can't decide between Chevy Trail Boss 6.2, Ram Rebel and Titan Pro 4x. I have read so many conflicting reviews about each of these trucks, which made me more focused. Could you please give me your opinion on which one of these trucks is more reliable and mechanically good for the money? Thanks
KT101
Any suggestion
Clarification: will it actually be used off-road? If so, are the trails narrow or wide or...? All the places I go off-roading, for instance, a full-size off-road truck is the wrong tool for the job - won’t fit (you’d have to stick to midsize or smaller). But, I don’t know your intended application so it might not matter.
Toyota Land Cruiser.
None of them are.
My recommendation (and this is coming from someone who actually off-roads and has been in numerous friends’ vehicles off-roading) is go with the Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-road (you don’t need the TRD Pro), if you intend to do lots of rock crawling, going in sand, mud, washboarded roads, any dirt roads in general, shelves, hills, etc. If you plan to do high speed desert runs then the Toyota’s are not suited for that; for that you would want a Ford Raptor but none of the newer ones are good for long term reliability - I’d go with the 2011-2014 Raptor instead.
None of them. Ford Raptor would be your best bet for an off-road truck. Toyota doesn't make a very off-road truck just the TRD package so Toyota is out. Nissan is ok not great. GM trucks have NUMEROUS transmission problems, and the ram is a part of Chrysler, so that should be self-explanatory. Scotty has mentioned off-road trucks in a couple of his videos, and in everyone, he recommended the Raptor over anything else.
Depends on what the OP needs the truck for. Where I go off-roading, a Ford Raptor is too big, and you rarely see them out there. Sure, they can rock crawl but in tight trails they are too wide esp driving on shelves. I see far more Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-road and TRD Pro out there, and they can hold their own off-road. Same with the Toyota 4runners. I could easily recommend those, but they are not cheap. If OP wants to do high speed desert run, then none of the Toyota’s are good for that. The Raptor would be ideal for that; however, I don’t consider the newer Raptor good for long term reliability.
What do you consider "newer" raptors? Ever since 2017, they started making them with the high output V6 with 450 hp. The first-gen did come with the 6.2 V8 which yes, is a way better engine, but you have to realize that ford is not a newcomer to turbocharging their engines. With every year ford makes the 3.5 high output V6 they get better and better at making turbocharged engines. Overall, I would prefer a naturally aspirated engine over a turbocharged one, but the 3.5 V6 engines are a close second. With proper maintenance, they can last you a very long time
Also, Is the RAM Rebel really smaller than the Raptor? I know the Raptor is big, but I guess I never really Knew how much smaller other trucks are compared to the Ford.
We will have to agree to disagree. But the Ford Ecoboost and 10-speeds have had issues, and we have already covered this on the forum numerous times. In fact, the only Ford trucks I would recommend are the non-Ecoboost ones and with the V8’s before 2018 and without the 10-speed AT. Anyhow, we will leave it at that.
Thanks guys for all great ans helpful comments and suggestions. I need an off road truck with more room in the rear seating area. We are family of five and we mostly go on moderate trails and not too narrow.
Are you kidding us? Get the ford raptor. They look amazing for 2021, they have high resale value, and have pretty good reliability. They are also the king of half ton trucks. It doesn't matter if they aren't as powerful as the competition, they are really fun to drive and are literally built to go off road by the best pickup truck manufacturer.
@end Imagine getting the 2022 Ford Raptor.
I think their both the same truck. They redesigned it this year and just released it and it looks beastly. It's definitely my favorite ford next to a lifted f-250.
@end Yep
Since you mentioned further constraints (family of 5, moderate trails - not narrow), then I recommend (if you care about long term reliability) the Toyota Tundra TRD Pro. Some videos below including head to head with the original trucks you were considering:

Thank you so much for your suggestion. What do you think of Nissan Titan Pro 4x?
tthere is only one
