Why does she want it fast?  Unfortunately, fast cars are rarely reliable.  I'd be looking at Honda or Toyota.

Price, reliability, performance:  pick any 2 of the 3 parameters, but you cannot have all three.  I’d be looking at a Toyota Corolla or a Honda Civic (the Civic will be a tad more fun to drive) for a first car.

Go with Honda or Toyota. If smaller sized sedan then Corolla or Civic, if bigger sedan then Accord or Camry. If first car means she has just started driving then something fast isn't a good idea.

Toyota Corolla, 2015-up Toyota Camry, 3rd generation Mazda 3 / 6, Toyota RAV4, Mazda CX-5, older Hondas...

The thing is that I can't think of a good euro car sold in the US, I mean older Volvos are alright but they're all getting old. Nor can I think of a super solid simple car made in the US in the last 10 years - the best are still mediocre-alright.

fast, reliable, and comfortable

What's the budget? cause this could mean a Mazda 6, this could mean a Lexus RX.
