I’m thinking of buying this tool and was wondering how often do code updates need to be uploaded? Does the app let you know?

For these, when the app opens up I just check for updates, and if a new one is available I just go ahead and install it. Easy enough. Sometimes, I ignore and just do later. Up to you, but it’s simple enough to just check and update.

OBD codes don't change that much. OBD updates will be mostly for new vehicles that come out.
The software on the tool itself might be updated more often just like any smartphone, to get rid of bugs and stuff. The app will probably tell you.
