BMW can make extremely reliable cars and their inline 6 cylinder engines are second to none. They choose not to make reliable cars because they make more money on parts and maintenance than they do on the sale of the actual vehicle.
Is it true or just a hoax ?
You’re describing every OEM out there, not just BMW..
Yeah, that’s true.
For example, Mercedes does make (in small quantities) extremely reliable cars to be used as taxies. I recently saw a diesel E-Class taxi spec with (670k km) 400k miles on the original engine and transmission and was shocked.
This is especially true when it comes to luxury car companies, but they know the vast majority of people lease their vehicles so they cram a lot of technology and features into their vehicles so the lessee will continue staying with them as well as get new lessees (‘conquest shoppers’). It’s very competitive. They are not in the business of making vehicles that will last a long time without breaking (like a Toyota or Lexus). The primary (first) owner ends up returning the vehicle after a few years anyways, so there really is no incentive to make them last and not break well beyond the warranty period.
My experience with BMW is they are relatively reliable. BUT they cost an arm and a leg and torso to maintain, and aren’t necessarily built for easy maintenance.
