BMW M2 Comp doesn't engage to D, goes back to P after brake release

Hello,

I hope you can help me with an issue I have with my almost three years old M2 Comp.
For about six months, and from time to time, when engaging D on the automatic DCT transmission, the car switches back to P once the brake pedal is released.
This happens either in the morning or after a trip, and most of the time the solution is to restart the car.

Currently the car in at the dealer, but strangely no one knows what happens. They also changed the Parking Lock module, with no success.

For reference I have a video on this link  https://photos.app.goo.gl/QNpFjPXViyETXGgs7

Thanks in advance for help.

That's a tough one, especially as one would think the dealer had high-end scan tools for DCT problems.

This forum has 22 pages of DCT problem posts - perhaps you can find some clues to your problem there.

Will have a look, thanks!

I don’t follow BMW forums as religiously as I used to. But I remember reading something about a wiring harness getting pinched and shorted, this causing the car to go back to park/neutral. It might have been for the M4, but I imagine it would be similar for an M2, if it were the same problem. Maybe that venue is worth investigating.

Heck, maybe look at the brake pedal itself and see if under the steering column, if there is any wire being pulled or stretched by activating the brake.

Just throwing out this idea, it’s just a guess.

Something that got me thinking is that in the morning, after few days in the garage, the brakes are stuck to the discs and that didn't happen a year ago. I asked the mechanics to check and they told me that everything is ok, but I'm afraid that they only checked if there was an error code and not a mechanical problem... I'll ask them once more to check more carefully . Thank you!
