Hey Scotty I have a 2008 Honda Accord with 120,000 miles … I just changed my brake pads and brake rotors. Once I was going to work I saw the 2 fronts smoking with a wired smell… help?
Did you use high temp paint on the calipers? If not, that could be the problem.
If you did, then the pads are sticking to the rotors and you'll have to redo the job with new parts.
The pads are sticking to the rotors. Redo the job.
Have a photo?
Take them apart and put them back on? Or get a new set up ?
good it be because I painted my calipers as well?
It is possible that if you did not use the correct high temperature paint on you calipers, it's just burning off the paint.
I used caliper red paint …
But now they don’t smell anything… or hot?
My mechanic said not to worry about it because the brake rotors are not red . And if it was red . He said that it means my calipers are bad. He said it’s probably the paint burning off from the rotors.
Is he right ?
No, I hope you didn't paint the rotors, only the calipers.
Yeah a photo may help. Did you paint your rotors?
Take it for a ride, say 15 minutes. When you come home, get out of the car and feel the front rims. If those rims are HOOOOOT then your brakes are dragging. You may have damaged the calipers when you pushed them back in. If the rims are only say micro warm, then its the paint degasing.
