*URGENT* 2016 Mazda Miata mx5 or newer?

Hey Scotty I'm looking to buy a Mazda Miata Mx5 ND preferable a 2017 -2020 because the '16s have a lot of problems with their manual transmissions (MT).... And if you look on the mazda forums there are pages and pages of posts about people twlling their stories about their MT's having a catastrophic failure.. e.g. gears get stuck in gear, or it won't go into gear at all, and worst of all the transmission is blown... (sheared gears, broken gears, completely trashed, etc..) and this is allegedly all under normal driving.. and I'm talkin cars with less then 5k-10k miles. Some even under 2k miles... but Mazda seems to be honoring the warranty and replacing them with a new one but it's the same transmission or the second version but even those break quite often and they just end up with the same problem or worse... Anyways they allegedly fixed them after 2017 (with the v3 MT or 3rd version of the MT) but some 17s have still problems but no problems have been reported with the 2018s so far (with the v4 - 4th version of the MT) So my question is I'm in the market for an mx5 ND right now and absolutely have to buy a car to work and I have no choice but to buy a car now... and the '16s are pretty cheap. But considering all the problems with the trannys should I risk getting a 16? They allegedly fixed the problem but im.not sure...and as you know all the car prices are jacked up right now... so should I risk buying a '16 (because they're a lot cheaper) and getting the powertrain warranty or just buy a '17 and up? The '17s and even the 2020s aren't much more (3 - 5k more) and it would offer peace of mind... but im wondering whay u would do.. Go for the 18s - 2021s or save some money and get a '16? I really need a car right now because I don't have one and I need something immediately... what are your thoughts? Another option is to Maybe buy a cheap daily Honda and wait for car prices to drop or just go with the Mazda now? I have the money and it's not thay big of an issue but just wanted ur thoughts on it.. specifically if I should avoid the '16s and go with an 18 and newer.. thanks in advance Scott. I really appreciate what you do and I've learned a lot from watching your videos... been binge watching them honestly... 🙂 but please let me know what u would do what wat ur thoughts are. Thanks and be well!

I wouldn't buy a car that I knew had a major issue like that. It's just asking for headaches because you know what's gonna happen.

Why would you buy something which has a known major flaw?

If I were you I would wait. I have been looking myself for an older Miata (2000 to 2006)and the prices are INSANE right now, plus a lot of secondary owners beat the crap out of them.

I would wait for the price to drop on the newer ones. I wouldn't spend all that money on a car like that right now because everything is sky high.
