Brake light delay 93 F150

I have a 93 F150. It does have a brake controller installed by previous owner many years ago. The brake lights don’t come on until I’ve already come to a complete stop. Should I disconnect this device?

What is a "brake controller"? For trailer brakes?

It could be that your 3-decades-old brake light switch may be sticking and not releasing right away when you hit the brake

Brake controler if or trailer lights. It is many decades old. I did put a new several years ago

You could disconnect it and see if that helps. If not, check the brake light switch.

I will try that. I thought if I cut power wire I would lose all power to brake lights

What you need to do is restore the truck's wiring back to the way it came from the factory.

I have removed the brake controller. The brake lights still have the long delay. I’m guessing the switch has worn and no longer functions like it once did. It looks clean and shiny. I replaced it about ten years ago.

Jumper the 2 brake switch wires together while you arrange to observe the brake lights. If no delay, the problem is the switch. If the delay remains the problem is elsewhere.

Thank you. It apppears the switch has given up…
