Hey Scotty I wanna share with you about a bad mechanic I met today that was recommended by a friend. So I have a 2017 Toyota Camry and got an oil change and after checking out my car he said I needed brakes (I already suspected I needed them too). Anyways I ask him if he could put Akebono brake pads and he was shocked that I asked for those and was like “akebono?!?! That’s for German cars and sport cars you don’t need that” so I’m like but I always get those you can’t get them? He’s like “no we don’t have that and you don’t need that”. I couldn’t believe he would say that so I was like ok never mind I’ll get a break job another time. (I’m not going back)
ok

are you offended?
That’s good that you walked away and didn’t allow him to pressure you into using brake pads that may have been inferior in quality to the Akebono pads and moreover not allowing you to make the decision to use on your vehicle the brand that you preferred and had served you well previously.
Well, it's true that Akebono brakes are mostly for higher performance car, not a grocery getter Camry. He was trying to save you money. I've seen people putting cool sport stuff on their economy cars which doesn't make sense to me, but your money, you do you lol. OME brake pads would stop your car as fine as Akebono ones. If they couldn't stop your car according to safety standards, they wouldn't be allowed on the market in the first place.
The following statements are from the AkebonoBrakes.com website:
"Akebono Performance® Ultra-Premium Ceramic Brake Pads offer reliable, smooth, safe stopping for spirited street drivers of sporty and performance vehicles."
"Akebono ProACT Ultra-Premium Brake Pads offer a wide range of coverage for virtually all popular late-model domestic and Asian vehicles."
They also make pads designed for European Vehicles as well as pads designed for Severe Duty use.
