Buying a new car from a dealership (GMC)

I’m looking at buying a new GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 from a dealer in Michigan. They’ve got over 300 GM trucks on the lot but they won’t budge on their price. How do I get them to come down? They’ve got the friends and family price advertised on all vehicles they have but they won’t honor it unless you have an immediate family member who worked for GM. Any advice on how to negotiate them down in this market? I can’t imagine they’re selling many vehicles right now. Thanks!

Is there another GMC dealership in your area? See what they're going for at a second dealership, and then leverage the two for a better deal.

You can't.

Your ultimate negotiating tool is willingness to walk out the door if they don't agree to a deal that you're comfortable with. At that point if they don't chase after you waving a better offer in hand you're done with them and need to look elsewhere.

The AT4 is cool, but comes at a premium and is less likely to be discounted.
If you can’t find one cheaper at another dealer, the other option is to get an SLT with the X31 package (low range transfer case, auto-locker, skid plates; same as AT4 minus lift and appearance package).  The SLTs typically are more flexible in pricing. That’s what I got myself last year at the peak of the shortages and paid less than MSRP.

it's not a buyer's market right now.
