Hey Scotty, got a seller who is selling a 1999 Mercedes Benz CLK320 with about 179,000 miles. Apparently they said the catalytic converter got stolen. They also said the car runs good. The car also looks clean in the photos. I plan to inspect it tomorrow with my scan tool. The seller was selling it for 1800$, but they are willing to give it for 1200$, and is willing to tow it to my mechanic. Apparently the seller works for a towing company. I am friends with a Mercedes mechanic who does not charge me the usual rate. Also my family already owns a 98 CLK320 with over 210,000 miles. So I am already familiar with this car. I am just wondering if buying a car with no cat is a okay or a bad idea? I have never had to replace or repair a catalytic converter before. Also in our state we do emissions testing so I obviously need to fix it.
Wow! Sign a Mercedes that cheap. I can guarantee you there's more wrong with it than just a converter but if you're willing to gamble with a car that is going to have told somewhere and have a guy work on it and you like those things well that small amount of money isn't much.
Hey Scotty, I ended up walking away from the vehicle. My scanner could not even connect to the ECU so I could not even see any data stream or access any codes. Thanks for the help.
