Hey Scotty,

I am looking to get an SUV that I could camp in from time to time and have plenty of space for my dog and myself. I would be driving down rough dirt roads, yet nothing too extreme. I am looking at the Honda Element, but have heard mixed reviews. What is your opinion? What other options would recommend? Thanks

what's your budget?

Around 5k preferably if feasible

Not looking for anything fancy. Just reliable and utilitarian.

A 2015ish 'Hoe/'Burban might be the ticket

They go for that cheap?

I'm just going by my experience and expectation. I have no idea where you live or what your car market is like at the moment. You'll have to do your own research.

ok I did a quick search and it seems that SUV's are ridiculously overpriced. I guess Astro vans are less "cool" so they for cheaper.

The engines are indestructible (body will rot out long before engine quits).

This seller is on crack. It's the same price I paid for the exact same mileage 14 years ago. But it should give you an idea.

If you could find an early 2000s burban those were pretty solid and you can find those around 5k all day. No shortage of parts or aftermarket. If you want to tweek it with some upgrades very easy to do. I’ve seen those early 2000s Burbans run up to 400k mi before transmissions and motors kill over.

5k for a 20 year old burban is WAY too much.

The man said his budget is 5k I’m not saying he should pay that amount for a 20 yr old burb. Just that they can be found around that price.

a thousand pardons

Hey no worries, I saw your Astro post and I have nothing but respect now.

I had an Astro, and as you can see, it is dog-approved. (seats are quick-release and can be completely removed)
