can Lexus NX300 run on 87

Hi Scotty, if I accidentally fill up 2020 Lexus NX 300 (2.0L Turbo, premium gas recommended), can I just drive as is, or should I add a bottle of octane booster? If octane booster is needed, which brand is the best? Thank you!!!

Sorry I made a mistake saying "premium gas recommended." The owners manual says "Premium unleaded gasoline only."

That car has adjustable octane tables. It will just reduce performance to prevent knock. You won't damage anything.

If it is recommended premium, you could technically run 87 all the time if you don't mind not getting the performance out of it. It will also get a little worse MPG running regular as well. I would run premium, mostly for max MPG in that car.

Thank you for your comments.

I just read the manual. It says "premium unleaded gasoline only." The engine is 2.0L 4-cylinder with turbocharger (8AF-FTS). So seems premium is required (sorry I thought it was recommended).

Sorry the engine is 8AR-FTS

You'll still be ok for a single tank. Just swap back to premium and you're good to go. 🙂

Most modern cars have knock sensors, so they can adjust things as necessary to accommodate lower octane fuel.

While I don’t know the specifics of your car, my guess is that it will run ok, but not optimally.

If you start hearing knock consistently, then you know you have a problem.

Thank you so much!
