Can new keys hurt old locks?

I just got a new key cut for the crummy 2001 Toyota Sienna I just bought. The new key has sharp edges. Should I worry that it's going to damage the inside of my old locks and ignition?

As long as it works I doubt it would damage anything, after a while the key will begin to shape itself to fit the lock/ignition better. I've had to have new keys made for all of my cars, and it's never hurt anything.
