2005 Ford focus zx3 2.3 150,00 miles Automatic

im trying to replace the alternator and everything else has came off and im at the last step but i cannot get the pigtail clip off. the release button depress fine but it will not budge at all. im thinking maybe the alternator overheated when it went out and affected this plug but im not sure. any suggestions on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated id really like to rev up my engine soon. thank you all.

If it overheated and started melting you would probably be able to see that. That happened to my 2000 Maxima years ago. Does your wiring harness allow you to replace just the part that feeds the alternator or maybe the alternator and A/C unit? If so, try pulling the pigtail out of the connector with needle nose pliers and, if it breaks the connector on the wiring harness, replace the wiring harness.

I would spray a whole bunch of silicone lube on the connector. Wedge a piece of cardboard or something into the clip so you don't have to hold the release. Put a good set of pliers or channel locks on the connector, and just wiggle and wiggle it back and forth until it comes out.

ill try that now thanks again mtn man

If you have access to compressed air you could try blowing out the connector as best you can. Sometimes connectors get dirt inside causing them not to actually release the tab holding it on
