Can’t get drive belt back on

Hi Scotty,

I am changing the AC and drive belts on my 2007 VW Jetta 2.5L. I managed to take off the belts but I can for the life of me get the new ones back on. I even tried to get the old belt back on but I can’t manage that either. The new belt is the correct size, I checked. The online videos don’t seem to help because it’s such a tight space on those 2.5L engines. Any tips to get it on? At the moment it seems like it a physical impossibility!

well that's Volkswagen for you but I've been working on cars for 53 years and I'm very good at snapping them on what you do is you get them as close as you can in the direction of travel so that the belt is starting to go on the last pulley then with your friend you have a big screwdriver to hold the belt on the pulley that it's almost getting over and when they quit crank the engine with you pushing on the belt with the giant screwdriver so you don't hurt your hands you can often snap them back on
