I bought a 96 grand marquis. The transmit ion shifts ok, but not like I want it to. It has 127000 miles on it. I don’t know if the transmission fluid has ever been changed. Should I change the fluid and add Lucas stop slip, or leave it alone. The fluid in it right now is still red with only a small amount of black dirt. It sat for a year before I bought it.

If it is still red then it shouldn't be too late to do a drain and fill.

You could do a drain and fill on it and see if it helps. If it still isn't doing what you want, you can try the stop slip.
