Car Buying Advice

Daughter looking to buy first car.  Has lived in areas with good metro system so has had no need previously.  $30-$40k price range.  Looking at Prius or Rav4 HEV or PHEV.  Probably new but open to buying ,used as well. Definitely wants a hybrid; PHEV is not a requirement however.  Has also looked at Hyundai and Kia but maintenance cost, and reliability seems to be an issue.  Thoughts, advice, appreciated. Thanks.

Toyota makes the best hybrids. Don't buy one too old that's likely to need a new battery and possibly other expensive repairs soon.

Stay away from Korean cars if you don't want your house to burn down.
