Car choice question

Hello Scotty! I live in Europe in a mountain area and i want to make a choice for a car. I am thinking between Nissan X-trail 2009 2.0DCI and Jeep Commander 2008 3.0 CRD. I want to know how reliable they are, repair costs and which is better considering the salty roads during the winter time, rust is a problem here. Thank you!

Do you have any other options in mind?

What other All Wheel Drive or Four Wheel Drive vehicles brands do they have in your country?

There are a lot of brands to choose; Land Rovers , Mitsubishi, BMW ,Nissan , Suzuki, these are the most common 4x4 brands. I owe a Land Rover now and it s ok but i will never buy one of these again.

Another option is a Nissan Pathfinder 2009 2.5 DCI.

With rust, there really isn’t much that one can do because salt will wear out even the best of cars. Whatever you choose, make sure to check the under carriage is solid before buying.

And also make sure to underwash your car to get rid of the salt.

Generally speaking in snow or mountainous road conditions, I recommend All Wheel Drive cars (not necessarily Four Wheel Drive, AWD and 4WD are different). AWD gives you the most control out of all the different types of drive.

I’d normally recommend a Subaru All Wheel Drive for the snow because All Wheel Drive is their specialty. All they build is AWD vehicles.

If not, I would go with a Toyota or Honda AWD SUV, like the RAV4, CRV, Highlander, or Pilot, 4Runner. Heck they might even have a Toyota Hilux where you are at.
