It won't work without programming it,

no

The short answer: no.

Engines can be swapped out, but it is not plug and play at all and some are extremely complex.

For the most part, no. And there's no way a 2016 model is the same vehicle as a 2008 model. That's 8 years, dude!

Really it depends. Sometimes they are the same over the spread of just a few years. (That's the case with mine.) I would not expect it though with vehicles separated by 8 years, too many changes happen over that period of time. On really recent cars the modules can be locked into the VIN and you can't even install used parts.

Sure you can. But just like a brand new computer, a used computer will have to be programmed to the car.

Can it be done? Yes. You willing to put in the work? Do you know what you are looking for? Computer and engine alike.

Agreed with @toyotagrl said. Without programming it, it probably works with the wrecked vehicle that goes with that specific computer from the junkyard.

Of course you can take a computer from one car of a different year and put it in another. in fact, you can do that with just about any computer and car whatsoever.

Now as for it working...well... I wouldn't hold your breath. lol
