This has been asked many times and I will summarize for you.
The Ford Transit is an OK van. Not best for reliability long term but OK at best.
The Sprinter van is a better van, Scotty recommends it as well. Sure maintenance might be more expensive as they age because its a Merc, but they are decent vans.
I highly recommend going for the Diesel Sprinter for the sake of reliability. I also see Youtube videos of people traveling and they use the Sprinter van. Its also very customizable from what I see there but I have no experience with that.
