Hello everyone, I recently had to junk my car and am now saving for a new one. I'm looking for either a pre-owned Honda or a Toyota sedan. What should I go for? What years of those cars should I avoid?

I would look at Civics and Corollas - dependable, long lasting. It's more important that you find a good, well-cared for, unbent example than the year or Honda vs Toyota.
Here's a year by year comparison:

What is your budget? How do you plan to use it? The more info you give us, the better suggestions you will get.

For instance, I would not recommend a Honda Fit to somebody planning to drive it 50k miles a year, because they are not exactly a luxury car. Or for somebody that is going to use it for something like Uber, where they will be in it all day long. I know at least some of them are just not that comfortable for all day use, I have heard Uber drivers complain about them.

However, they are a great car to run around town, or for commuting to work, perhaps not a super long distance though.

My budget is 10-12K, I'll use it to commute from school and work but I also plan on taking it on road trips.
