Hi there Scotty, Im from Menasha Wisconsin and recently I got into an accident, some guy ran a red light and totalled my 2001 Toyota Solara, SLE V6 and only had 189k miles on it and bought it for 2,000 dollars but this car was worth more than I paid for so now I'm waiting for insurance and blah blah blah (hoping they'll give me at least 4000 which is the highest amount of what the car is worth but if nothing else I have a job obviously) so I'm looking at a few cars...one is a 99 Buick Park Avenue Base with 130k miles on it that is $3,395, A 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix **GT** (Not the Original) that has 170k on it and $2,295 ...A 2008 Subaru Forester with 170k on it and $4,495...A 2006 Subaru Legacy with 147k and also $4,495k...2003 Honda CR-V EX with 150k on it and $4,798...A 2007 Honda Civic LX with 251k and $2,895...and last (I looked at one of Scotty's videos about this SUV and he recommended it, so I searched one up and this is the only one...its not a 2005 but it's the only V6 I could find) A 2000 Ford Explorer with 158k and $2,495...Now these are all the reliable cars possible I could find in my area, now I think all of them are in 1 place because we have this big car store about more than an hour away but all of the cars I found are there besides the Ford Explorer and the Subaru Forester but which do you think is most reliable and longest lasting? Don't get me wrong I love driving, in more of a everyday driver (Mostly City) so I'm just looking for a car that is cheap on parts, more reliable and longest lasting...Let me know, I also have a few camry's around my area but see if these choices are better than the Camry

Let me know if you have any Questions or Concerns,

Thanks 🙂

Don't you have any other choices, like you know, ones that aren't overpriced by a factor of two?

I think out of those the Civic is the best buy but you can't use it as a daily driver because of the very high miles.

Check out the Used Car Buying Guide below for more info on buying used cars.

The Ford Explorer with the V6 is not recommended those things yikes I'd stay away from them to summarize.
Have you looked at the 2003-2008 Corolla? Those go around 3-4 grand 150k miles.

I mean they're not overpriced,
Are you talking about like parts that maybe overpriced?

The Ford Explorer is last on my list, because Im never a Ford, Dodge, Chevy fan, No way! More into Honda, Subaru, Toyota's, Older Buick's..

I have a couple Mechanics that are extremely professional...They build/fix engines, transmissions that makes cars last for a lifetime

As of right now the Civic is second to last on my list because of the high milege

My Girlfriend has a 1997 Buick Park Avenue, and that has 230,000k and still runs extremely smooth...Very little issues but affordable parts to buy

They are expensive. In fact when I first read it I though it was a joke. 14 year old Forester 170k miles for 5 grand??? 19 year old CR-V 150k miles for 5 grand??? The Buick is a good car and the miles are low they can last a long time but I wouldn't pay a dime over 2000 bucks.

Well as long as you have a good mechanic like a couple that I have to go over it, it'll be a good steal if it's in good condition...I will definitely be taking a good look before buying this car

FYI, Insurance companies usually go by comps in your area to see how much they will pay out.

Look around your area for cars of the similar year, make, model, trim, and mileage, and that will give you a good idea how much you might get.

Call me crazy but I'd actually go for the pontiac if the mechanics of the car check out. I had one that I beat the crap out of for 1k for 20k miles (3years) but that's after the 220k on the odo. Minor fixed, axle on driver's side have out and an alignment) included in the 1k always ran it like a crazy person and it drove nice for a beater. Never had much issues with it (fixed with dexcool tablets) lol got rid of it cause what do you know, the head gasket blew because I drove it to hard lol. Poor car. Kinda miss it.

Please specify if those are private sellers, or off a dealer lot.(this was in the instructions when you were filling up the form).

I have to agree with Kerem. I would not pay anywhere close to those prices.
