Car shudders sometimes when I take off in first

Hi,

I recently purchased a 2013 Honda Civic sedan, manual transmission, with 122,000 kilometres on the clock. Sometimes when I take off in first, I notice that the car shudders a bit. It doesn't do it all the time, but it is more noticeable when starting on an incline. Perhaps it's just me not getting the revs right (I've been driving automatics for the past 20 years), but I don't recall other manuals I had back in the day doing this. Could it be a worn clutch or something? Should I get it checked out.

Thanks,

Peter

Could it be a worn clutch

Definitely sounds like a worn out clutch begging to slip.

Try making it slip in high gear by slamming on the gas, if the revs go up and fall as the speeds begins to pick - def clutch.

but at only 70k miles - I can't imagine how hard it was abused!

Here's how that looks, found a video online of a clutch severely slipping:

On a manual with the clutch pedal untouched - the wheels are fully connected to the engine (through the transmission that gives a ratio between engine rpm : wheel rpm and that is a constant for each gear) and when the engine picks up speed but the wheels don't, this means that something is slipping, and the only thing that can is the clutch.
