Hey Scotty, I own a 2003 Corolla with 167K miles. I’d like to know if I’m having ECU issues because I have to drive with my scan tool plugged otherwise, my car will stall out. What should I do? Thanks

What codes are you getting?

I don’t get any codes what so ever, it’s almost as if my scan tool brings life to my car.

If you have any electronic concern it should be triggering some sort of codes. If you let the car stall without the scan tool connected a few times you should get some sort of fault otherwise we’re kind of grasping at straws without the car in front of us

Never heard of this happen before. I can only think of 2 things. 1. You have a bad bcm or pcm and hooking up the scan tool is letting it run properly. Some how its acting like a bypass or activating something that's shorting out.. 2. You have a fault or short in the harness or ecu. Again having it plugged in is letting it bypass the short or fault.

No codes makes it difficult to narrow down, couple that with a possible short or fault with sensor or wiring makes it even harder to diagnose.

Hopefully someone who has seen this before will comment and help you out .
