Just purchased four new Michelin Defender T+H tires for my 2004 Avalon. As usual, the tire store puts 35 psi in each which I always have accepted as I have always thought this is a good pressure for tire wear and performance as well as better gas mileage. But Toyota recommends 32 psi as stated inside the driver's door. So should I run 32? How would Toyota's recommended 32 psi accommodate all tire brands and types? Or does the brand/type of tire matter?

No. Use 32 psi.
That being said, you will never notice a difference of 3 psi.
Yeah, that seems right. After all those Toyota engineers probably spend a bit of time applying their knowledge and research to determine their recommendations.

The tire should dictate the psi not the car maker (my .02c)
The tire usually doesn't dictate anything other than the maximum pressure the tire is rated to hold.
