Hi Scotty I’m starting to look at used cars on Facebook Marketplace. I want a scanner I can carry with me, plug into a vehicle, and quickly understand if there are major problems before buying. I need something that explains codes in simple terms and gives me enough info to discuss the vehicle with my local mechanic. What scanner would you recommend for a beginner buying used cars?
See the site FAQ and the Tools link at the top right of the page for scanner recommendations. You may also find the Project Farm test of scan tools to be of interest:

Note that there are many serious problems that a scan tool will not detect. It is imperative that you have a good mechanic give any vehicle you are considering a thorough examination before purchase.
@chucktobias thanks.
I found this one online (BlueDriver Pro Next Gen OBD2 Scanner). Anyone thoughts on this who have had experience using this would be appreciated. Thank you.
