2003 Pontiac Bonneville, about 197k. I recently encountered a problem where I couldn’t get my car to start randomly and all of a sudden. There was no turnover, dash turns on and everything so naturally I assumed it was my starter. Now that I’ve got fuses and new starter wires and a new starter the car started…for about half a day. Back to the same thing. Previous starter was soaked in oil, any idea where the oil is leaking from?
Well often the oil comes from leaking valve cover gaskets check that. Now you said it worked for a short time but then didn't. So I would do would be checked. All the wiring could be wiring. This oil soak needs to be cleaned off and make sure the area where the starter bolted on was clean. Cuz if you bolted the starter onto an oily engine the oil will keep the electricity from traveling through to the starter
