HI Scotty:
I have a new 5.3L engine in my 2006 Chevy Suburban. I always used 5W30 in my old engine and wonder if I should keep using the same oil in my new engine or use a synthetic. If so what type of synthetic do you recommend? Thank you! 😊 🙂
Clarification: How many miles on the new engine?
Also, which engine: Vortec 5300 LM7 or L59?
Yes, Vortec 5300.
Do you know the engine model? what year was the engine made? Is it pulled out of another vehicle?
It is a rebuilt engine from Eagle. 5.3 L. Installed in July 2020 😊 .
that doesn't really narrow it down. There were many 5.3s. I don't know what year it was made or what model it is. Just use the Dexos Gen2 oil. It's what GM specifies for all their engines since 2017 and it's backwards compatible.
I have a Vortec 5300 5.3L (LH8) (from 2008) and I use Mobil 1 5W30 Full Synthetic - It has the Dexos 1 Gen 2 ‘approval’ logo on the bottle.
Regarding the oil, use full synthetic, for the specification, check your owners manual.
