That depends. Why do you want to use the "Lacquer trick"?

What symptoms are you experiencing, first of all? Have you scanned for codes? If so, the P0420 /P0430 errors don't necessarily mean the catalytic converter is functioning inefficiently. Catalytic converters are designed to last for the car's lifetime. Any kind of exhaust leak could lead to that code being tripped, it could be a lazy oxygen sensor (there's an oxygen sensor before and after the catalytic converter to measure the catalyst's efficiency). It could be a vacuum leak, etc. Troubleshoot before just dumping lacquer thinner in your gas tank. You may do more harm than good.
