07 Ford Ranger with the 8.8, 4.10 gears and limited slip. The internals had a thin black layer on them. Is that normal? Also, I used a Fel-Pro cardboard or thick paper gasket. Cleaned the surfaces really good. Carefully put it on with the cover (cleaned the cover completely) and torqued it down (book said 33 lb ft) and it seems to be leaking, just a little. It’s just moist underneath. Should I leave it, tighten it more or redo The Who process?

Tried twerking a little tighter the color is normal though
Ok, thanks! I also sprayed both sides of the gasket with clear coat, just to give it some stick and liquidity to fill scratches and low spots. Maybe I shouldn’t have, but I’ve done it before with good results.
