Hi Scotty I have a 2011 Daihatsu Terios A/T AWD with 49700 miles (original tyres). I lost the front left tyre due to the bad roads in South Africa and had to get a brand new replacement, which is of the same brand but a different model and tread pattern as they don't manufacture the GrandTrek model anymore.
The never used spare wheel is now on with front left with the new different tread on the front right and the original 2 tyres still in the rear.
Will this damage the AWD? I'm battling to get a new tyre (same as the front right).
Thank you for the great show!
You should be fine for a short period of time, but change it asap.
Because it's AWD, you might need to change both front tires, or ever all four (they're probably worn out anyway right.). Double check your manual to make sure.
Watch for ABS/Traction Control buzzing/engaging for no reason. That, and any sense of the AWD engaging/disengaging.
If it drives smoothly, you're probably fine with the one odd tire and can change it when available.
I had an issue when the road was wet that it sounded like the left front diff lock was on when turning to the right ( wheel chirping), but it doesn't happen on dry roads. It has permanent AWD (can't be switched off) with optional difflock. Difflock was definitely off
