can I siphon the transmission fluid from the dipstick hose?
I have a 2018 Ford F150 with 72,000 miles.

You can but you probably shouldn't. When is the last time the fluid was changed? If never, then you definitely want to drop the pan and see what's in it. Clean the magnet, check things out, and replace the filter.

I've heard of people doing that but it's not as complete a job as removing the pan or even using a drain plug if your transmission has one. You won't be able to see if there's anything to be concerned about draining out (like metal filings or grit) and you won't be able to replace the filter.
