Hey there Scotty, do you think a 2005 Lexus ES330 with 215k miles for $3,100 out the door is a good price? The car is in decent condition, there’s some small paint scrapes on the corner of the bumper, but the interior is in pretty good condition, and runs like a clock with no lights.

If a professional mechanic inspects the vehicle before purchase and gives you the green light, knock off a few hundreds off the asking price owing to the cosmetic damage to the vehicle.

As long as it passes a pre-purchase inspection, it might still have some life left in it..

Find out if the timing belt has been replaced.  Timing chain for the ES V6, which, under normal conditions, lasts the life of the motor, started with model year 2007. If they say the belt has been changed, ask them to prove it.  It should have been changed at least once at this mileage and ready to be replaced a 2nd time.  If they can not produce any evidence of changing the timing belt & tensioner, spark plugs and water pump, assume they haven't and be prepared to spend ~$1k or more with your favorite mechanic to get that car up to date on recommended maintenance.  That can be used to help negotiate a lower out the door price.
